Mount Property Group has started on a student accommodation project on the former National Express bus station on Norton Street, a site it bought from Anwyl in June last year.

The developer confirmed its purchase of the site last year, after first being tipped to buy the site by Place North West in January 2018. Clearance work has been completed and groundworks are now well under way to prepare the site for construction.

The developer is planning to build two blocks of 16 and 10 storeys featuring 566 student beds, split between 472 cluster units and 94 studios. Designed by architect Falconer Chester Hall, the scheme also includes a games area and gym as well as a private courtyard between the two blocks.

Mount will carry out the build as main contractor, while Thomas Contracting is carrying out the groundworks. The project, a CGI of which is pictured below, is due to complete in time for the 2020/2021 academic year.

The purchase of Natex from Anwyl was Mount Property Group’s second major student scheme acquisition last year, having purchase a 124-bed project on Devon Street for an undisclosed price in May.

Natex was to be Anwyl’s first in the city after the North Wales-based contractor and housebuilder gained planning permission for the site in November 2016. The Deeside company also has planning permission for a 21-storey, 342-home private-rented block in Pall Mall, but this is also yet to start on site.
